Recently HP has announced a voluntary recall on a number of original notebook batteries that were shipped with the company’s laptops or sold as replacements between March 2013 and August 2015 due to fire and burn hazards.
The notebook batteries were shipped with HP, Compaq, HP ProBook, HP Envy, Compaq Presario and HP Pavilion laptops and also sold as replacements and provided through support channels. Because these batteries pose a fire and burn hazard, it is extremely important for customers to check whether their batteries are affected, and to cease use of affected batteries immediately. Customers may continue to use their notebook computer without the battery installed, by connecting the notebook to external power.
How to find out whether my laptop computer battery is affected?
Individual customers should go to the HP Battery Recall website to check if their battery is affected, and to order a free replacement battery, if eligible.
HP is offering a validation program that can check if the battery in your laptop is affected by the recall, which you can find at h30686.www3.hp.com. It also provides instructions to check your battery without installing any software.
HP claims that owners of affected notebooks can use their computers safely by removing the battery and plugging them into a wall socket.
