The battery in a laptop computer is designed to provide dependable power; however, all rechargeable notebook batteries gradually lose their capacity to hold a charge. Batteries made of different materials have different lifecycles. For instance, with moderate use, Li-Ion laptop batteries are expected to deliver around 80% of their original capacity after 300 charge cycles or about one year of use. This loss in battery capacity (aging) is normal and irreversible.
The maximum capacity of a notebook battery changes over time. Because of this change in battery capacity, the charge level indicator in Windows might not show 100% charged. To know the condition of your battery, use the steps in this document to test your HP HS03 battery and calibrate it if necessary. Calibrating the battery resets the battery gauge to accurately display the charge level in Windows. In this document, two methods of testing and calibrating the battery are explained. Also, a manual method for calibrating the battery is presented.
